Open Mic & Featured Performers

Our Open Mic / Featured Performer format has proved to be a popular venue. The types of music varies from folk, personal to popular, blues, bluegrass, classical, jazz, and more. And many of the players perform their original works.

The Open Mic has seen Guitarists/Singers/ Performers Chuck Cheesman, Terry Dumdei, Adam Fry, Barry Malpas, Ted Johnson, Doug Coleman, Andy Gould, Barkley Coggin, Anne Wittke, Robin Rauch, Ken Ralston, Jim McCarthy, Bill Burke, Sherrill Kennelly, and many others. We never know who may walk in the door to sign up. In February "Dusty and Joanna" who were traveling cross country from Maine found our website on the Internet, came in, and played two duets on guitar and autoharp.

Past Featured Performers have been Rusty Tweed, Nolan McKelvey, Chuch Cheesman, Terry Dumdei, Tony Norris with Elena Gonzalez, Brad Bays, Craig Yarbrough, Robin Rauch, Joan Wyatt with Mike Falk and Sheila McCormick, Nate Stone and Bill Burke. We have also hosted special performances such as Sara Grey and Kieron Means from Ireland last fall.

In the tradition of the old coffee houses we also encourage poetry, and several people, such as Ken Ralston and Andy Gould, have included it in their repertoirs. Sam Piper has presented his original poetry, that has varied from humorous, to satirical, to thought provoking.

We have received many positive comments on the format, and the enjoyable evenings had by those who have attended, as well as those who have performed. We have also occasionally been given suggestions and ideas on how we might improve the Folk Project which we always encourgage and seriously consider.

We would like to extend our appreciation to the Featured Performers, the open mic performers, to Barkley Coggins for the use and operation of his amplifying equipment, and to Mark Alexander for the use of refreshment equipment, to Anne Wittke and Barry Malpas for organization, and Susan Bischoff, for helping with set up and clean up of refreshments.
